Map your desk before adding to your cart
Measure the usable width and depth of the desk. Decide where the laptop, display, keyboard, and frequently used objects will sit. Think about where power and network connections enter the space.
List annoyances in your current setup. Prioritize a purchase that solves one of those problems over an accessory that simply looks good in a photograph.
Make the connections explicit
For each display, list the resolution and refresh rate you intend to use. Check the computer and dock documentation for that combination. Confirm the charging power required by your computer and supplied by the dock.
Write down the cable needed for each connection and check what the seller includes. Avoid assuming a cable supports every feature of the port it fits.
Upgrade one bottleneck at a time
Start with the part that regularly slows you down. If you join meetings all day, test your microphone and camera in the actual room before deciding which accessory needs replacing.
Keep the packaging until the setup works through sleep, wake, charging, and reconnection. Use the seller’s return window to check your normal workflow, not just whether each device turns on.
