Lenovo writes a prescription for success to one of Asia’s leading pharmaceutical companies

One of the biggest issues facing modern medicine today is the mutation of microbes rendering drugs useless in treating a specific disease. Lenovo saw an opportunity to support medicinal and pharmaceutical companies, who are steeped in R&D efforts to keep up with these mutational developments by developing next-generation drugs that can continue treating the disease.

In particular, Lenovo reached out to a leading pharmaceutical company in Asia who is responsible for maintaining a dependable supply of over 250 medicinal products to its retail and hospital partners, in addition to overseeing more than 100 R&D projects in fields like cardiology, nephrology, and oncology.

A mission critical problem

Central to their R&D effort is the need for employees to be equipped with sturdy, reliable laptops. Faced with the complexity of managing the health of employee devices across the region, the company encountered substantial operational delays in delivering medical supplies to its partners. This also racked up inefficiencies and an unfulfilled log of device maintenance and replacement needs, adversely impacting the overall productivity and performance of its employees.

A holistic approach

To address this pressing issue on both fronts, Lenovo stepped in with a comprehensive solution that comprises the provision of ThinkPad T14 and ThinkPad X1 laptops, designed to offer consistent, high-performance computing, and attached services.

The powerful processing capabilities of the ThinkPads enabled researchers to execute computing intensive tasks such as data analysis, programming, and running simulation software without a glitch. Due to the sensitivity of the data that’s stored on these devices, the ThinkPads’ built-in security features were an added plus. The company deployed 200 ThinkPad T14 and X1 laptops to one branch and an additional 150 to another, standardizing the device ecosystem and enabling seamless collaboration between teams.

To provide immediate support to employees, Lenovo established a specialized helpdesk team. This proactive approach not only offered quick assistance but also effectively minimized any potential downtime. Lenovo’s Device as a Service (DaaS) solution gave the IT team greater control and oversight of the fleet of devices, and employees were able to avail themselves of IT support no matter which part of the world they were situated in.

This holistic solution comprising devices coupled with strong support services enhanced the company’s overall operational efficiency and productivity.

Advancing the field of medicine

Since deploying the ThinkPads and Lenovo’s DaaS solution, the company has tracked an increase in the number of patents filed by the research team for next-generation drugs, as well as marked an improvement in satisfaction levels towards IT.

Through revamping the device management approach, Lenovo enabled this leading pharmaceutical company to channel more resources into fulfilling its core mission: ensuring the availability of life-saving medicine.
