Research Triangle Park, N.C. – November 9, 2012: At North Carolina’s most prestigious technology awards program, the North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA) recognized Lenovo (HKSE: 992) (ADR: LNVGY) for its contribution to the technology industry in the state and worldwide by honoring the Company with the best award in the Large Company category.
Given NCTA’s criteria, this award is based on achievements in revenue, product innovation, market penetration, sales growth and employment expansion. Lenovo’s recent milestones – highest record market share, revenue and profitability results, innovative ultrabook line of products and addition of US manufacturing – played an important role in winning this award.
“We are truly honored to accept this award from NCTA,” said David Schmoock, senior vice president and president, North America. “Lenovo is experiencing enormous growth worldwide, and our U.S. executive headquarters in Morrisville is the nerve center of that growth for North America. We’re proud of our home here, where we have great employees and strategic partners. That’s why we brought manufacturing to this state and continue to expand our workforce.”
In a reversal of industry trends, Lenovo announced last month that the Company will bring manufacturing of its ThinkPad line of products to the United States. The U.S. Fulfillment center in Whitsett, NC will soon have a manufacturing line, and will add 115 manufacturing jobs in NC.
“Since 1995, the NCTA 21 Awards has honored technological excellence and innovation throughout North Carolina in 21 categories, representing the best and brightest in technology and business. As a winner, Lenovo has distinguished itself as one of the state’s technology leaders,” said Brooks Raiford, president and CEO, NCTA.
Lenovo has grown into a $30 billion company and has been consistently recognized for its innovative products across all divisions of the business. The Company grew its North Carolina workforce over 30 percent in the past three years in order to support Lenovo’s rapid growth in consumer and commercial markets in North America and globally.
Today, Lenovo has over 2,200 employees at its headquarters in the Research Triangle Park area.
