Lenovo Introduces New Ultraportable Toolkit for Road Warriors

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – May 31, 2007 – Lenovo today introduced its ultraportable toolkit of ultraperformance-based PCs featuring the new ThinkPad X61 and X61s notebooks and the X61 Tablet PC. The new PCs highlight a more than 30 percent improvement in wireless performance over previous models, battery life that goes the distance, extended security through new I/O port disablement and the latest mobile processing technology.

Additionally, Lenovo introduced the Lenovo 3000 V200 notebook featuring a built-in optical drive, Vibrant View display and robust multimedia features. Lenovo has also updated its ThinkPad and Lenovo 3000 notebook line with the ThinkPad T61 15.4-inch widescreen and R61 15.4-inch widescreen notebooks as well as the Lenovo 3000 N200 14-inch widescreen notebook.

“As the traditional work place environment continues to change, customers are telling us portability, reliability, connectivity and security are most important to them,” said Marc Godin, vice president, Worldwide Notebook Business Unit, Lenovo. “We’ve engineered our latest ultraportable ThinkPad notebooks so that our customers can get the best from their PC in all of these areas.”

ThinkPad Ultraportable Notebooks – Extra Mileage Machines More than thin and light, Lenovo’s new ultraportable notebooks help road warriors eliminate plugs and wires. Lenovo’s improved wireless design, Ultra Connect II, combined with a new integrated pop-up antenna on the ThinkPad X61 and X61s improves broadband wireless 1 throughput by more than 30 percent while increasing the range over previous models. Also, for an easy wireless experience, Lenovo offers several connectivity options such as WWAN, WLAN with 802.11n technology 2 , GB Ethernet, Bluetooth or modem on select models of all three notebooks.

Ultra Long Battery Life To Go Lenovo extends the workday with ultra long battery life. The ThinkPad X61s goes the distance up to more than 12 hours with an eight-cell standard battery and optional extended life battery, and the ThinkPad X61 and X61 Tablet follow running approximately up to 11 and 10 hours respectively. 3 Also, by enabling Lenovo’s new Battery Stretch control, users can gain up to 15 percent longer battery life to finish a presentation or current work by simply selecting functions to temporarily disable in the Power Manager ThinkVantage software. Powered by Intel® Centrino® Pro mobile technology, the notebooks give users ultimate computing capabilities.

Iron Clad Security The new ThinkPad X Series ultraportables offer iron clad security with features like the Client Security Solution, a unique hardware-software solution to manage passwords and encryption keys, along with optional fingerprint readers.

Lenovo protects the PC from inside and out with new 32-byte hard drive password protection and optional I/O port disablement capabilities. The new password feature combined with the integrated fingerprint reader allows users to create lengthy and complex passwords for protecting the hard drive without the added stress of remembering the password or typing it in public places. Through port disablement an individual can disable any port on the outside of the system — from a CD/DVD drive to a USB port to a firewire port. With managing information security in today’s business environment a top priority, these capabilities provide a new level of user control.

Tablet Gets New Style On The ThinkPad X61 Tablet puts a new style on tablet computing with features that make the transition from pen and paper intuitive and user-friendly. With SuperView, a direct bonding technology in SXGA+ resolution screens, users experience lower reflectivity than similar panel technologies for excellent readability outdoors, even in direct sunlight. The technology helps prevent scratching, making the Tablet PC extremely durable under harsh conditions. Also, with the Microsoft® Windows® Vista™ operating system, users can train their notebook to recognize their own unique handwriting. Individuals can also navigate and edit shortcuts more smoothly using pen flick gestures and easily see when a pen or fingertip acts as a cursor.

“Our customer relations managers are on the go everyday and require a Tablet PC designed around their needs and conditions in the field,” said Jerry Batt, VP & CIO, Pulte Homes. “Lenovo’s Tablet PCs are engineered with the features, like a lightweight design, long battery life, excellent screen visibility and the latest wireless connectivity technologies, that our employees rely on to maximize productivity. More time in the field means more time enhancing customer relationships, and that’s good all the way around.”

Powered by Intel® Core™2 Duo low voltage processor technology, the latest enhancements build on Lenovo’s innovations like Active Rotate dynamic screen rotation and the combined MultiView display and MultiTouch feature on select models to deliver Lenovo’s highest performing Tablet PC yet.
