In dozens of remote locations across Australia, consultants from Scyne are helping clients deliver complex projects and essential services more efficiently.
Whether supporting government agencies, responding to cyber incidents, or pioneering AI vision analysis for road safety, Scyne’s teams are constantly on the move – working in offices, in the field, and everywhere in between. To keep pace, the firm needed reliable, high-performance technology that could be deployed, managed, and supported at scale. With Lenovo TruScale Device as a Service (DaaS), Scyne has equipped its people with the tools to stay productive and connected wherever their work takes them.
This is just one example of the impact Scyne Advisory, a new public purpose consultancy, is making across Australia.
Born out of a partner-led buyout of PwC Australia’s public sector advisory business, the early days of Scyne were defined by urgency. The organization had limited time to transition from PwC facilities and IT systems. It needed to quickly establish its own physical and digital infrastructure with brand new offices, business systems, and endpoint devices.
With a mission to support public purpose organizations, leaders at Scyne had to simultaneously establish the business as a standalone entity while managing the deployment of more than 1,000 laptops to a distributed workforce spanning remote cell towers to government offices. The clock was ticking.
Daniel Borg, Head of Digital Workplaces at Scyne, says: “We have a highly mobile workforce using a wide range of digital services, from productivity applications to complex spatial analysis and cybersecurity systems. We looked for a vendor that could rapidly equip hundreds of Scyne employees with secure, performant and mobile endpoint devices.”
A tight deadline
The Scyne leadership team turned to Lenovo to configure and deploy devices right across the continent, including at remote locations, ensuring that all its teams could continue their work seamlessly as the company transitioned its IT system. Lenovo’s experts worked closely with leaders at Scyne Advisory to quickly select, configure and deploy devices to employees who were still working on projects at locations across Australia.
With company leaders eager to avoid the expense of upfront capital expenditure (CapEx) procurement, Lenovo’s TruScale Device as a Service subscription-based model for hardware, offered a cost-effective way to quickly equip employees with devices – without the need for significant initial investment.
Borg said, “Early on, we realized that the Device-as-a-Service model was a far better fit. With a DaaS approach, we can spread the cost of new devices throughout the life of the assets, increase the flexibility of the warranty replacement process and gain the agility to scale rapidly as the business grows.”
Power to the people
As part of the Lenovo TruScale DaaS set up process, employees were paired with the right devices to meet their needs according to their specific roles and requirements. For power users working in software development and AI, Scyne Advisory opted for high-performance Lenovo ThinkPad P16v Gen 2 devices. For users at sites across Australia and remote and hybrid workers, Scyne Advisory opted for ThinkPad T14s, while managers were equipped with Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12 devices – ultralight, powerful machines built for on-the-go productivity.
Lenovo also helped ensure mobile connectivity where needed and even helped roll out other laptop brands to those workers who used them.
Borg said, “To meet the deadline, the end-to-end process had to be seamless: from collecting the old devices to setting employees up on their new machines. Lenovo TruScale DaaS offered us the speed, cost-efficiency, and support services to help us hit our go-live target. Whenever we hit a bump in the road, Lenovo Premier Support responded rapidly to get us back on track.
“Lenovo and our managed service provider helped us design a smooth onboarding process,” Borg continued. “That allowed employees to handle most of the tasks themselves, which greatly reduced our support requirements and sped up the rollout. There aren’t many partners that could have helped us pull off a project of this scale, urgency and complexity, but Lenovo knocked it out of the park.”
Realizing results
The team met KPIs on time, comfortably meeting the end-of-support deadline, delivering 1,150 devices nationwide to multiple locations. The impact was immediate – new devices booted up five times faster than the legacy machines previously used by Scyne employees. Lenovo’s sustainability services like Lenovo Asset Recovery Services (offered as part of Lenovo TruScale DaaS) also mean that Scyne can support the circular economy. Lenovo will ensure hardware is disposed of in a socially responsible and secure way at end of life, with the devices refurbished and reused where possible.
Looking to the future, Lenovo Premier Support provides peace of mind by ensuring the ThinkPad devices continue to perform reliably, delivering a seamless experience for employees. With expert engineers available to help 24 hours a day, and on-site visits available the next business day, Lenovo ensures the devices can keep delivering for Scyne’s purpose-driven clients across Australia, by boosting productivity through reduced downtime.
Borg says, “We work side-by-side with public sector organizations all over the country. With Lenovo TruScale DaaS, I can have confidence that the team is equipped with devices they can depend on.”
Rakshit Ghura, Vice President and General Manager, Digital Workplace Solutions at Lenovo comments: “Supporting a mission-led organization like Scyne Advisory adds a meaningful dimension to our work. With Lenovo TruScale DaaS, we enabled Scyne to rapidly equip a geographically dispersed workforce – on time, on budget – while eliminating up-front capital costs and simplifying lifecycle management. Equally important, our sustainability services ensure end-of-life devices are refurbished or reused wherever possible, supporting Scyne’s broader ESG commitments. It’s a powerful example of how TruScale DaaS delivers agility, performance, and purpose-driven impact.”
Going forward, Scyne Advisory aims to work further with Lenovo to keep achieving for clients, as the company aims to partner with government, energy, defense, and other public purpose organizations to help improve the lives of Australians.
Borg says, “The Lenovo TruScale DaaS team regularly checks in with how we’re doing and keeps us up to speed about other Lenovo capabilities that might help us. Looking ahead, we’re planning to build on the partnership by working with Lenovo to deploy smart meeting rooms in our new offices.”
