To accelerate machine learning and deep learning and other workloads, organizations need high-speed compute, networking and storage power. But that alone often isn’t enough. Increasingly, organizations want to add virtualization to the mix, to simplify the allocation and centralize the management of resources. Virtualization also provides the flexibility to allow multiple teams and applications to get the IT resources they need, when they need them.
Here are a few examples of how these forward-looking organizations are using Dell Technologies solutions with VMware to accelerate business.
Animal Logic
Animal Logic is one of the world’s leading independent creative digital studios, with a resume that includes work on such Hollywood blockbusters such as Captain Marvel, Happy Feet and Peter Rabbit.
To help ensure that creativity stays at full throttle, Animal Logic counts on a rich mix of virtualized computing technologies, including Dell EMC VxRail hyperconverged infrastructure, Dell EMC Networking switches, Dell EMC PowerScale storage, Dell Precision workstations and Dell Monitor technology.
“When it came to making our artists’ workflow efficient, we knew we could rely on a combination of Dell Precision and Dell Monitor technology supported by VMware-based virtual desktops,” says Radu Vintila, systems engineering supervisor at Animal Logic’s Sydney Studio. “We couldn’t have given our artists the tools and flexible software environment for ground-breaking hybrid-movie animation without the solutions that Dell Technologies has made possible.” Read more of the Animal Logic story.
Atlantis, The Palm
At Dubai’s Atlantis, The Palm resort, making sure that up to 15,000 guests enjoy the best service possible and never wait for resort amenities requires innovative IT solutions. The resort found its answer in an all-flash Dell EMC VxRail hyperconverged infrastructure solution.
Atlantis, The Palm’s 10-node VxRail and Dell EMC RecoverPoint replication solution provide improved compute and storage redundancy and protection for key databases. To further enhance reliability, the Atlantis, The Palm also uses VxRail to support an identical number of VMware vSphere virtual machines for a new resort and residences at The Royal Atlantis.
“VxRail gave our performance a real boost,” says Amir Qureshi, director of IT. “Processing time has been significantly reduced. We get our reports much faster, and the speed is greatly appreciated by the front desk staff.” Read more of the Atlantis, The Palm story.
Duos Technologies
Leading freight railroads count on solutions from Duos Technologies Group to enable automated railcar inspections. These solutions rely on Dell EMC PowerEdge servers deployed at the edge to capture images, model data and handle sophisticated analytics and reporting without halting trains as they roll down the tracks.
To remotely manage and administer its far-flung estate of servers, storage and other IT solutions, Duos relies on Dell EMC OpenManage Enterprise, the integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC) and VMware vSphere Enterprise. vSphere software is used to host servers running internal applications for development, accounting, monitoring, authentication and security.
“We count on PowerEdge servers to process and analyze the images and other data from the cameras and sensors 24×365, using our AI models,” says David Ponevac, Chief Technology Officer at Duos Technologies. “This gives customers the actionable intelligence they need when they need it.” Read more of the Duos Technology story.
Trintech
Trintech provides large, multinational companies with software that supports monthly, quarterly and annual closing. Protecting customers’ data and keeping services continuously available are vital to Trintech’s business.
As Trintech grew, it found that it needed a backup and replication solution that would support both on-premises assets and those in VMware/AWS environments, so that it could leverage AWS storage for backups and on-demand growth. To meet these requirements, Trintech chose Dell EMC PowerProtect DD Virtual Edition (DDVE) and RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines (RP4VMs).
“We have deployed PowerProtect DD Virtual Edition and multiple AWS regions within hours,” says Matt Bertram, VP of Technology for Trintech. “And this allows us to meet very aggressive recovery point and recovery time objectives for global customers with the full-stack automation that the solution provides. We can meet customers’ specific backup requirements, and we can failover to a secondary site within minutes. With the tools that Dell and VMware have provided, we’re talking about literally 15 minutes to failover a production application to a secondary data center.” Read more of the Trintech story.
Key takeaways
Virtualized solutions are now one of the keys to success in the digitally-driven enterprise. In a recognition of this new reality, forward-looking organizations are increasingly capitalizing on tightly integrated virtualized solutions — like those from VMware and Dell Technologies.
