Beyond agentic: Leading the next phase of orchestrated AI transformation

Generative AI is old news. Many of us, from individual creators to large enterprises, have long-since embraced tools that can write, analyze, synthesize, and even create multimedia on command. But what if your AI could go beyond prompted creation and actually get things done?

That’s the promise of agentic AI, which will do more to transform how we live, work, and create than those sophisticated chatbots ever could.

Agentic AI takes action: completing multi-step tasks, understating intentions, setting goals, and solving complex problem. It gives you a powerful collaborator and real-time assistant equipped with unparalleled knowledge and speed. In short, AI evolved from reactive to proactive.

And yes, agentic AI is already here. New browsers leap past the previous generation of recommending a trip itinerary to making bookings on your behalf. New frontier models have promised breakthroughs in productivity, especially in creating original code—taking a creative impulse and generating full, customizable applications.

Now, for all their autonomy, agents still require human leadership, vision, curation, and target-setting. We steer the ship and set the destination, but agentic AI offers a highly skilled, tireless crew to accelerate and enhance the journey. Though to be fair, early reactions to some of the latest models are inspiring skepticism about their efficacy or the promised leaps forward.

Let me repeat a common and, for me, inspiring phrase in the world of AI: We’re only at the beginning.

At Lenovo, we’re already pushing into the next phase of agentic AI and human empowerment: AI Super Agents.

Maybe that sounds like the familiar AI hype—just slapping a superlative (pun intended) on an incremental step in technology. This could not be further from the truth. With businesses demanding clear ROI, the pressure is on for technology leaders to deliver more. Lenovo is ready.

Our focus is on a multimodal, multi-agentic suite of AI solutions. We’re building cognitive operating systems that can act across an individual or enterprise’s goals, systems, devices, and deliverables. The AI Super Agent can perform as the director of multiple domain-specific agents, leveraging their strengths to execute a task with real-time agility. We combine the vast knowledge, exceptional memory, and strong inferencing skills of multiple AI agents. This is an AI agent orchestrating other AI agents.

All of this builds on Lenovo’s leadership in hybrid AI: the seamless integration of AI models wherever they are deployed. Our comprehensive AI portfolio and expertise allow us to securely deploy agentic capabilities on-device, on the edge, or across a company’s proprietary data. Our focus on personal and enterprise twins—our term for AI continuously trained and optimized on an individual or business to best mirror their intentions and actions—segues perfectly into the agentic era. AI is more useful the better it knows the user or the greater its domain expertise. Now, imagine an AI Super Agent orchestrating on our behalf and exponentially amplifying efficiency and impact.

We define the AI Super Agent across three main parameters:

  • Perception and interaction: An AI Super Agent captures and senses real-world signals in real time. With proactive, multimodal perception—integrating texts, images, speech, gesture recognition, eye tracking, and facial expression analysis—it can accurately interpret intent and context before responding naturally across devices.
  • Cognition and decisions: The agent combs data, analyzes experiences, and learns through real-time feedback—building a traceable, relatable, long-term memory across edge, cloud, and devices. (Long-term memory is another key evolution in generative AI.) In doing so, AI can uncover the underlying logic of events and contexts, accurately interpret users’ complex intentions, make inferences and decisions, and generalize learnings from one scenario to others.
  • Autonomy and evolution: Guided by user intent and prior knowledge—trained on existing data or developed through use—the agent breaks down complex challenges into actionable tasks. It can then assign each piece to the most appropriate complementary agent and then orchestrates the order and steps. Through an agent-to-agent protocol, the AI Super Agent invokes tools across platforms and ecosystems, completes tasks proactively, and continually evolves through self-learning.

These multi-agent interactions are a complete game-changer. Let’s consider the complexities of a global supply chain, as one example: Sourcing raw materials, manufacturing components, assembling devices, delivering across geographies… In each instance, unanticipated events—from weather to geopolitics to fluctuating demands—can radically impact down-chain dependencies. Here, an AI Super Agent can lead real-time pivots at each AI-optimized step in the process, adapting dependencies and integrating dedicated AIs.

An AI Super Agent behaves like a cognitive operating system for individuals and enterprises. It serves as the single point of entry for every request, a master assistant and orchestrator dispatching tasks, tracking progress, and synthesizing output. And for that purpose, Lenovo is building more agent-native devices, which you will see us launch at our upcoming Tech World at Sphere, Las Vegas, on January 6th.

This is an extraordinary computational lift, though we continue to find ways to optimize models. Fortunately, the AI Super Agent is up the ask—our CEO Yuanqing Yang once affectionately called it a “relentless over-achiever.”

We’re developing these AI “over-achievers” for individuals on their devices and for businesses at enterprise scale. Underlying everything is our unwavering commitment to data security, privacy protection, and ethics. We prioritize responsible AI development, joining initiatives such as the European Commission’s AI Pact, UNESCO’s Recommendation on the Ethics of AI, and Canada’s Voluntary Code of Conduct on Generative AI. These agreements underscore our dedication to aligning with and guiding international standards. Our own Responsible AI Committee evaluates Lenovo’s AI solutions against key pillars, including privacy and security, accountability and reliability, explainability, transparency, and environmental and social impact.

These are foundational guiding principles for every AI Super Agent.

I sometimes think of agentic AI as a true digital native, fully fluent in the languages of coding, the web, multimedia creation, enterprise interactions, and everything we do across devices. So the AI is uniquely able to operate across tools, finding unprecedented efficiencies and synergies. AI Super Agents amplify that singular ability.

This shift is unlocking massive new potential for both individuals and businesses. For employees, agentic AI acts like an autonomous assistant that handles tasks, adapts to your preferences, and keeps things moving without constant nudges. For companies, it means scalable workflows, smarter decision-making, and AI agents that collaborate across systems—turning marketing, operations, customer service, and more into streamlined, self-correcting engines of progress. The AI Super Agent, in turn, gives teams a force multiplier for both productivity and creativity.

Stay tuned to see how Lenovo is leaning into this new era of agentic intelligence—how we’re using it, building with it, advancing it, and helping our customers transform with it.
