MORRISVILLE, NC, – February 23, 2016 – Lenovo (HKSE:992) announced today that it has joined the Open Compute Project (OCP) as a Gold member. Our goal as an OCP member is to create value by contributing best practices for system design innovations targeted for customer-specific workloads and efficient datacenters. As a Gold member Lenovo will have the opportunity for joint participation in projects that improve upon and respond to the evolution of open standards, help grow the breadth of technology available in the OCP portfolio, better understand the needs of existing members and address emerging needs from new sectors.
The Open Compute Project was established in 2011 by Facebook as a non-profit foundation dedicated to sharing open-source designs for the greatest efficiency and scalability in datacenter infrastructure.
Lenovo is committed to helping OCP strengthen their ecosystem and foster innovations for both existing hyperscale datacenter standards and the evolving requirements of customers that are looking to leverage OCP. As a leading provider of technology for traditional, finance and telecommunication datacenters Lenovo is uniquely positioned to collaborate with community members in OCP to harden existing OCP standards and to rapidly deploy optimized solutions thanks to our world-class supply chain and global manufacturing capabilities and strong industry partnerships.
“Lenovo embraces the mission of the Open Compute Project and is excited to contribute to the evolving standards that will improve datacenter efficiency. Membership in OCP is an extension of our hyperscale business strategy, which is a commitment to help our customers find solutions specifically tailored to the needs of their businesses. We are proud to join Facebook and our industry partners in the OCP community” – Gerry Smith, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, PC and Enterprise Business Group, Lenovo
“We’re excited to welcome Lenovo to OCP as a gold member,” Amber Graner, Operations Director and Community Manager, Open Compute Project Foundation said. “We value Lenovo’s industry thought leadership, and look forward to collaborating as a community to drive faster innovation throughout the broader IT infrastructure ecosystem.”
