Alleviating AI fatigue with a results-oriented approach

AI has become the CIO’s most urgent business priority. But the relentless cycle of information overload, skillset anxiety, and uncertain outcomes may result in AI fatigue. Moreover, the sheer volume of ideas and pressure to make the right call can also create decision paralysis among technology leaders.

This fatigue can stall progress and stymie organizational efforts to drive growth using AI. Although 80% of CIOs say AI developments will have a significant impact on their businesses, large swathes of the organization are not ready for AI.

According to Lenovo’s Global Study of CIOs 2024, these leaders say that:

  • Their organizations do not have an AI-ready corporate policy on operational/ethical use: 76%
  • Their organization’s supply chain is not AI-ready: 74%
  • Technical skills within their IT function are not AI-ready: 49%
  • They do not expect to see positive ROI from AI investments for at least two to three years: 42%

Clearly there is a disconnect between awareness and action. Lack of policies, gaps in skills and supply chain, and limited in-house expertise to deploy AI are among the top issues that CIOs need to address, and address fast.

Helping CIOs simplify the deployment of AI

To alleviate this fatigue, Lenovo recently launched AI Services that help IT leaders gain an AI advantage by strategically navigating the complex AI ecosystem, choosing and implementing the right solutions, and putting AI to work.  The result is the ability to quickly turn vision to reality, with fully managed, secure, and scalable AI systems.

Lenovo’s AI Services provide an end-to-end AI adoption experience, while they can also be consumed in modules, allowing businesses to engage at any stage, depending on their level of readiness. The portfolio includes:

  • AI Discover: During this stage, Lenovo works with customers to visualize and map out the best AI adoption strategy to solve their business pain points, and determine the type of resources that they need, assessed against AI readiness across four pillars – security, people, technology, and process.

  • AI Advisory: Next, Lenovo recommends the best-suited adoption roadmap for the customer, including the most effective security posture, change management plan, technology architecture. The proposed roadmap ladders back to the customer’s strategy and objectives, and it defines desired outcomes of AI at any scale, from pocket to cloud.

  • AI Fast Start: At this point, the customer will hold pilot trials using a Proof of Concept or Minimum Viable Product to demonstrate that this investment in technology can produce real results, whether they are business, operational, or technology outcomes.

  • AI Deploy and Scale: Results from the pilot test then give customers the confidence to deploy the tools and frameworks to implement a fully secure and scalable AI system. Customers may choose to deploy via Lenovo TruScale as-a-service, which can further reduce the upfront costs because they only pay for what they use.

  • AI Managed: Lenovo stays with customers throughout the journey and continues to manage their solution and expand upon the roadmap developed together. This includes specialized guidance to maintain, manage, and optimize the AI system and IT deployments for their lifetime.

Case in point – Lotus, global maker of custom-built performance cars, jump-started their AI journey to a successful AI implementation by working though the five phases as outlined, leveraging Lenovo hardware, software, and services. As a result, the company transformed their manufacturing operations  with tangible business results, like reduced error rates and more accurate defect detection, made possible by implementing Lenovo’s private AI solution for quality inspection.

While AI fatigue is a real concern, it does not have to be a roadblock. With a focus on clear value propositions delivered with expert guidance, AI adoption can be a smoother, transformative journey.

By simplifying the rollout of AI, Lenovo is making this technology more accessible to organizations and individuals, helping businesses realize their AI-powered ambitions to unlock new levels of efficiency, innovation, and competitive advantage.
